Topics in NeuroRehabilitation - Episode 19. Pierre Asselin, MS, from the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY gives a detailed overview of some of the metabolic and physiological responses his research group has reported in an analysis of US Veterans who are regular exoskeleton users. Regular exoskeleton users who have achieved independent status demonstrate similar magnitudes of lower limb loading response to healthy individuals, and are able to achieve a moderate level of metabolic activity during exercise. Most significantly, this research also demonstrated the potential for regular exoskeleton use to reduce body fat in individuals with SCI, which has not been demonstrated by any other interventions within this population.
