👉Madden NFL 27 comes out this week at seventy bucks, so naturally I spent the weekend playing football games from 1991 in a folding chair in my driveway.
Here is the thing I keep coming back to though. Every football game worth playing was drawn for a television shaped like a box. The camera height, the sideline to sideline view, the way the play art fills the frame, all of it was built for 4:3. The Anbernic RG477M has a 4.7 inch 4:3 screen at 1280x960, which means these games fill the whole panel instead of sitting between two black bars. So I put twenty one years of football on it, from Tecmo Bowl on the NES to NCAA Football 11 on the PS2, and picked five.
