Today I'm giving my Top 100 Post Retail Games! Now you might ask what the heck does post retail mean? Well, I wanted to be able to include things beyond homebrew. Those games that developed during the consoles life but never released until long after it was discontinued. The modern Atari releases. And yes, even the homebrew games that we've all come to love.
The goal is to encompass everything that's been hitting the console the last few years. And celebrate them. Even my number 100 is a game that somebody is going to love. And they were all games created by community members who love Atari!
So here are the rules for my list:
No incomplete games of any kind. This includes the Works in Progress by today's talented Indie and Homebrew developers, and this includes the games that were found but never completed from the consoles life. So no GATO, Rampart, etc.
No text adventures. There are actually quite a few, but they just aren't my thing, so I don't want the bottom of the list to be consumed by them. Just know that they are out there, and work pretty well if you are into those sort of things...
Obviously no games that were ACTUALLY released during the consoles retail life. So no Ninja Golf, Food Fight, or Midnight Mutants!
and finally, these games are ranked by what I prefer. The first game is my favorite, the 100th is my list of those included on the list. To create the list, I simply asked myself would I rather play X or Y game, and then placed them on the list by those means. This is very much my list, and yours might be different. Which is great! If you are interested in Atari 7800 homebrew, then Ebay is almost always the worst place to go. Some people sell their games directly on there or Etsy, and that's fine. But resellers try to make a ton of money off of devs hard work. Support developers whenever you can. I recommend the following sites for homebrew games!
