i dont think ive ever been this conflicted about my thoughts on a map/tower/level before, quick little story
alright so i had basically 0 experience with tria i played nos astra when it released but stopped playing soon after, i played layers a tiny bit and then i just never really played the game again, fast forward a bit and i found this map. the ONLY reason i went for this map is because its based on a game that ive known and liked for over a decade at this point, i was shocked an obby game took inspiration from mario the music box and even more shocked when i saw the sheer quality of this map. it looks phenomenal, the bossfight is awesome and the music does a lot to complement and enhance the atmosphere
but unfortunately yeah everyone knows this already, the sin has some of the most atrocious gameplay in any obby to date, it feels like the second the gameplay was completed, it was never touched again. no polishing, no balancing etc. the main problems with this map are the random jumps that are so inconsistent to the point where they're basically guaranteed to have an element of luck to them. and funnily enough there IS luck based gameplay in this map with the randomised boss attacks which can straight up put the safe spots on the other side of the room and make it LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to get there on time, completely wasting a run (getting to the boss is really goddamn hard) i ended up not getting any rng on the boss attacks in real runs however i did lose two runs to the rng lodge at the end of the boss. i don't really know why but the creator of this map thought he could just put regular obby gameplay and it'd just magically work with the physics engine of an fe2 game. evidently it didnt work and its scuffed beyond comprehension.
as weird as it feels to say this, i didnt hate this map. i really do respect the clear passion the creator has for the source material and my luck with this map was actually not that bad, which helped quite a lot with my enjoyment. me being a fan of the game this map is based on also helps a lot in that regard. i do consider this to be a pretty big disappointment though just because this was the easiest opportunity ever to make an absolutely outstanding map and the creator completely screwed it up because he was too stubborn to fix the unfair stuff in it and polish the gameplay more. don't artificially force your levels to be harder just to garner more attention please.
enjoyment: 6/10
time spent: under 10 hours, can't track exactly
HUGE thanks to fabvil for keeping me company the entire time i played this, we were basically grinding it together 80% of the time and he managed to get the map in 3 runs. not sure if he'll continue playing but i know he can definitely beat this
