Introducing the Cambridge Subtitles Toolbar from the University of Cambridge Engineering Design Centre. This freely available tool offers more inclusive options for presenting PowerPoint slides. The presenter writes out the text of their talk in advance in the slide notes, and the tool creates subtitles for the slides from this text.
The presenter can then present from the subtitles, clicking through them in the same way they would click through their slides. This helps the audience, particularly anyone who has issues with their hearing or whose native language is not the language in which the presentation is given.
Subtitles produced by this tool are usually better for the audience than automatically generated subtitles, because there is no time delay and no possibility of speech recognition errors. This tool can also help the presenter, especially if they don't like public speaking, or have to give their presentation in a non-native language. Watch this video to find out more.
The subtitling tool is free to download from inclusivedesigntoolkit.com/presentations
