Tool changers are finally becoming a serious thing in 3D printing — and the Flashforge Creator 5 might be one of the most interesting budget entries yet.

In this video, I take a look at the Flashforge Creator 5, a CoreXY 3D printer with four independent tool heads designed for multicolour and multimaterial printing without relying on the usual AMS-style filament swapping system.

The idea is simple: instead of one nozzle constantly purging, wiping, cutting, retracting, and creating a mountain of plastic waste, the Creator 5 physically swaps between separate tools. In theory, that means cleaner colour changes, less waste, faster swaps, and more flexibility.
But this is also an early machine — and that shows.

So is the Flashforge Creator 5 the start of a new budget tool-changing era, or just another prototype that needs more time in the oven?
