Learn how to choose gel prints for a collage painting using three easy steps. In this video, I create a mixed media canvas and show you exactly how to move from a pile of prints to a finished artwork with confidence and clarity.
Choosing which gel prints to use can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you have so many beautiful pieces in front of you. So today I’m simplifying the process and sharing a practical approach that makes collage decisions easier and more intentional.
First, I begin with a strong focal point — in this piece, a tree becomes the anchor for the entire composition. Starting with one clear element gives the painting direction and helps everything else fall into place.
Next, I add gel prints in similar colours to build harmony and create a cohesive foundation. Working within a limited colour family keeps the piece unified and balanced.
Finally, I introduce gel prints in contrasting colours to bring energy, depth, and visual interest to the painting. That contrast is what makes the composition come alive and prevents it from feeling flat.
