I still need to do more to smooth the animation out, but I've got the head moving now! It was super simple to do with this particular skeleton. It has one of the new style head and neck attachments where there is a ball on the spine and a socket in the head. The head was already very loose but I over worked it until the joint was super loose and the head was floppy. Then I just drilled a small hole in the skull right above the socked, tied a piece of braided fishing line to it and tied the other end to the base. When the body goes forwards, the line pulls the head back. I also removed the jaw and enlarged the holes it attaches into on the skull. This made the jaw floppy after I put it back on. This makes the mouth open and close just by gravity as it moves.
Tomorrow I hope to finish final tweaks to the base and redo the forward stop on the tombstone. After that I can paint the base, make final adjustments to the animations and clean up some of my connections. Then it will be time to start thinking about how best to hide the motor, and how I want to do the tombstone carving, painting and finishing.
