Story:
Lara was driving home at night from a long trip. Suddenly the radio started playing weird noises and in front of the car appeared a creature like shadow. She swerves her car to avoid hitting the creature on the road. She crashes the vehicle and loses consciousness. After waking up she realizes that there is thick fog all around here with ash falling from the sky. An unpleasant smell of something burned is in the air. She starts to follow the road and soon discovers the deserted and foggy town of Silent Hill.

Story:
Kuon is set in Heian-era Kyoto, Japan. Most of the game follows the protagonists as they explore a feudal Japanese manor at night, as well as an old mountainside temple. The main antagonistic forces of Kuon are various forms of undead, including ghosts and resurrected corpses, the latter of which include horrifically mutated monsters created from fusing several dead bodies together.
Kuon presents three different protagonists, each one the player character of their respective in-game chapter: Utsuki, Sakuya, and a female version of Abe no Seimei.
- Utsuki protagonist of the Yin Phase, is a shrine maiden. She, with her sister Kureha, travels to the Fujiwara manor to find their father, exorcist Doman Ashiya.
- Sakuya protagonist of the Yang Phase, is a female exorcist and one of Domans disciples. She and her fellow disciples also enter the manor to search for Doman, as well as investigate the strange events occurring there.
- Abe no Seimei: protagonist of the final Kuon Phase, is a master exorcist who enters the manor last.

Story:
After recovering one of the artifacts, Lara escapes the island with a ship provided by a friend. She takes her time to take a breath and rest. Reading a journal that her friend found recently in India, our heroine discovers that a luxury ship, the Queen Athena, wrecked somewhere in the south pacific ocean, near the ruins of a sunken ancient city. The ship was carrying one of the artifacts, but since it wrecked, it was never found. The legend says that the artifact itself caused the wreckage, since someone used its intense power without care. Without anymore time to rest, Lara tells her friend to go right to the pacific ocean. Arriving there, she dives into the sea ready to explore the depths.
