You ever have a moment that makes you realize that you have way too much time on your hands? I just had that kind of moment as I just discovered this by sheer god damn accident. Because honestly why would anyone ever think to try this? A long time back I did a video on how you could open your PS2's disc tray before challenging wanderers to force the ones who won't race you into accepting your challenge. Well it turns out if you do this on a 3 car battle it has an interesting effect. There's 8 instances of 3 car battles throughout the entire game, so you need to get to a 3 car battle situation first. Then as the race starts, immediately quit out of it to force a quick loss. Now both of them will be cruising right in front of you. When it comes to 3 car battle rematches, you have to challenge the right person to trigger it again. For instance here with the race against Genesis R and Seeks team leaders, you have to challenge the Seeks team leader as challenging the Genesis R leader will result in a battle cancel, just like wanderers do when you don't meet their requirements. But if you do the disc trick before challenging him, when the game loads up again you'll find yourself racing only the Genesis R leader one-on-one, with the Seeks team leader completely out of the picture, as if you were re-racing him from the rival list. You'll even get credited with completing Nagoya stage 1 and get your bonus $100K for beating him, despite still having lost to the Seeks team leader. Allowing you to move on to another area despite not fully beating all 6 teams for Nagoya stage 1. And it now has me wondering, could you possibly defeat the last boss and beat the entire game without truly defeating everyone? I really wish I could test this now, but unfortunately I can't as I don't have an emulator or a PC anywhere near powerful enough to reliably run one.
