On this day, 100 years ago, the United States officially entered World War I.

The U.S. managed to avoid entering the war in Europe from its start in 1914 through over two years of international conflict. But a series of runaway events propelled America into the conflict.

Over the next year and a half, over 115,000 Americans would lose their lives in "The War to End All Wars."
