As part of her work as a Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellow in the African Art department, Nyaradzai Mahachi has curated a photography installation centered on the generation empowered during the civil rights movement. The selected photographs include images depicting children and feature photographs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Myrlie Evers, a leading civil rights activist; and Mahalia Jackson, who is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the twentieth century.
In this month’s collection highlight, we take a look at one of the included photographs, Marion Palfi’s To the Colored Waiting Room, currently on view in the Stent Family Wing on the Skyway Level.
