Kait Weston | To Be A Woman - Kait Weston (Original) @KaitlynAnnnn | Uploaded February 2021 | Updated October 2024, 5 minutes ago.
I remember sitting in a room with a producer in Hollywood. He told me “if you look f*ckable then the producers will want to work with you” I remember him telling me that if I gained weight he’d be sure to let me know. I remember being 21 years old and buying a one way ticket to LA to go after this dream of mine. I was so excited yet so young and naive to the what this industry could do to a young woman going after a dream. I quite literally believed the only thing that would sell me as an artist was my body. Thankfully I had good friends and management that kept me away from working with people like this. In 2018 I went on a writers retreat with Liz Longley and we wrote “To Be A Woman.” Liz is not only an incredible artist and writer but person. Writing this song was healing to the soul and I can only hope it empowers and helps other woman feel just as powerful and resilient. I don’t live in LA anymore. I’m not sure if things have changed but I can only hope they have and maybe sharing my story will help others who have gone through something similar. When I left LA and moved to Nashville I was treated with nothing but love and respect. I wrote some of the best music of my life there. I will forever be grateful for that community.
