Arrow Video are bringing the first three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films to 4K Ultra HD in a brand-new Limited Edition Boxset — and this early review takes a closer look before its official release on December 15th.
The highlight of the set is the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, presented in glorious Dolby Vision with a brand-new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Natural film grain is fully intact, revealing incredible new levels of detail — especially in the Turtles’ suits — while the Atmos mix immerses you in every kick, crash, and slice of pizza. 🍕
The sequels (Secret of the Ooze and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III) also receive fresh scans in Dolby Vision, each with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks. While not quite as dynamic as the first film’s Atmos mix, they still look and sound fantastic.
Extras are plentiful across the three discs, with new director commentaries, interviews, and even the UK theatrical version of the first film — reconstructed using a 35mm print for alternate footage. You’ll also find the Korean “Warrior Mix” audio, removing references to “ninja,” plus the Korean alternate scenes.
This is an outstanding presentation of the original film and a true celebration of the trilogy’s legacy. Without question, it’s one of Arrow Video’s best releases of the year — and a must-own for fans of the Heroes in a Half Shell!
