CSIRO | Tiwi Islands: Indigenous seasonal calendars on Many Lands, Many Seasons @csiro | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 1 hour ago
Do you know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have their own names and times for their seasons?

With @abcnewsaustralia, we have co-produced a TV series called Many Lands, Many Seasons. Each episode centres on different Indigenous seasonal calendars that were developed in partnership between senior Aboriginal knowledge holders and CSIRO.

The fourth episode focuses on the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory. About 80km north of Darwin, in the Arafura Sea, this series of islands are owned and managed by the Tiwi people.

Traditional Owners from the Tiwi Islands and the Tiwi Land Council collaborated with CSIRO to develop two calendars: a calendar of Tiwi seasonal ecological knowledge; and a calendar of plants and animals of Tiwi significance.
