Hate to seem like I'm jumping on a trend - though perhaps I am - but I've been having a slight obsession with the Titanic and other shipwrecks lately. LEGIT. This is footage from an expedition led by Robert Ballard of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the year after they discovered the wreck in collaboration with the Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer, led by Jean-Louis Michel, in 1985. Faustian man in full effect.
The ship sank in 1912 and lies at a depth of about 3800 metres, or 12500 feet.
The plaque pictured in the thumbnail was left by Ballard and his crew at the extreme starboard aft of the ships's stern, and reads "In memory of those souls who perished with the "Titanic" April 14th/15th 1912. Dedicated to William H. Tantum, IV whose dream to find the "Titanic" has been realised by Dr. Robert D. Ballard The Officers and Members of the Titanic Historical Society, Inc. 1986".
