The Mob Reporter here with a quick-hit look at an oddball arrest of a jewelry store bandit that really caught my eye. This took place Oct. 2, 2020, in Milan, a great city in northern Italy known as a global fashion and financial center. Let me tell you about it.
I’m not entirely sure why I love this strange scene. A lot of it has to do with how carefully and keenly he is choosing items — he acts like there is a limit on how much he can steal; like there’s a rule that there’s three watches per gunman.

Look at him examine the watches. “Do you have something like this but with a black band?” “Maybe something that’s waterproof?” It looks like any normal customer picking out a Christmas gift. You’d think he’d just stash all three in a bag and run but he asks to see an item in the window. He’s been in there now almost five minutes.
And look, there are other people window shopping, right there looking into the shop. Maybe the merchant is hoping one of them will notice the gun and call police. And maybe someone did, because look on the street, you see a police car back up in front of the jewelry store and then suddenly stop.
Even when the cruiser’ss blue roof lights go on, reflecting throughout the store, the gunman keeps looking at luxury watches. The merchant certainly noticed — he briefly put his hands up but then goes back to showing the gunman his wares.
It’s all still all so chill. Finally the bandit reacts. The arresting officers aren’t quite so chill as the bandit. It almost makes me wish he got to have a watch. Maybe he needed it to realize how long he was dawdling inside the store.
