When Jon started sharing this song, I knew it was something special. I remember performing a semi-improvisational version of it at the Conor Bryne open mic on a random Sunday. It existed in this sort of semi-written way for a while, but I really felt its energy, imagery and the character that drives its narrative. After the song had sat for a while untouched, I took it upon myself to investigate that character and explore the rest of the emotional road that it had already begun to traverse. On long walks I would hum the melody to myself and lyrics would begin to appear. And then a chorus appeared that seemed to sum up the internal negotiations we might have when we’ve risked losing the ones we love the most. It was an exhilarating thing to experience the song as it revealed the rest of itself. When the band got its hands on it during the process of making this album, all the rest of the pieces fell into place in the most beautiful way. Everyone’s visions intersect as only this band can do. We hope you all enjoy it as much as we do.
