So Future Trunks pretty much made sure that Future Gohan and that version of Trunks do not go back in time. Thus not creating the other timelines, creating a time paradox. Magical Time Travel has same rule as general time travel logic where Time Machine creates seperate timelines. We know this because in Xenoverse 1, when Future Androids killed Future Trunks, the current version of Future Trunks started to disappear from existence Back To Future style.
Also Trunks logic is stupid and proves he doesnt understand Gohan as much as the fans do. Trunks did this to give Future Gohan a happier future. Future Gohan will still be miserable. He will take the mantle of protecting the Earth *SURE* but he wont be able to live his dream of being a scholar and now, he will never do it. Even if the Earth is at peace for years, he will be too paranoid and with that PTDS, cant bring himself to live normally. I bet that paranoia will be increased due to Trunks warning him about MORE threats like Cell and Buu. Future Gohan was better off dead because he will be with all of his friends and family, he will also be happy in heaven.
