This has been life lately as a laid-off creative director, turned full-time content creator… whatever that means.
I had spent 18 years of my life in this hustle industry we call life.
Going out on my own, I thought things would be different, but instead, it’s just the same recipe, different dish.
I’m technically working for myself, but really, I’m still working for them. Still dispensable. And how did we evolve into this work culture where margins and ROI and blah blah blah are more important than time with family, time with yourself, and time to do the things we love?
I’m turning 45 this month, and I’ve been really thinking a lot about what that means. I was so focused on the numbers, the wrinkles, the gray hairs in my early 40s, but I’m realizing now that all those emotions I was feeling were about time running out.
And it’s funny because time is such a limitless concept. There is no end; instead, there are cycles. It moves silently and effortlessly around us, but runs out so quickly.
I don’t have the answers to why that is, but I am clearer about one thing. Time is currency we can’t buy back. And I’m not sure exactly what that means for me, but I do know that I need to spend my time… more wisely.
