A monopolising species arises when a species competitively excludes other species from a given niche. This can happen if its members are sufficiently powerful and invasive. A sexual species that does this on a sufficiently large scale can face competition mainly from other members of its own species. The resulting dynamics resemble those of monopolies in economic systems.
