This is one of my favorite tunes. I first recorded it for a Cordelia's Dad 7" ca. 1991 and then again on my first solo CD. The banjo was made by Ellis Wolfe of Butler, TN who made some of the best instruments I've ever played. He said he learned to make them from "Old Man Stanley"- Stanley Hicks, who used to walk down the back of Beech Mountain into Tennessee to see Ellis. This was my only banjo for about fifteen years until I got a giant mass manufactured monstrosity that's more amenable to being tuned on stage.
The sap buckets are out- the snow's almost all gone. I miss it.
