It gets really hot, it smokes a lot, and it shoots sparks.
I'm not keeping the gas post flow on the weld nearly long enough, that's why it turns black. To do this properly, I think you would need a gas welding chamber, or the largest cup/nozzle you can buy, and at least 15 seconds of gas post flow time. The parts stay glowing red in a large area for a very long time. If you decide to try it, make sure to weld in a well ventilated area. It puts off a lot of smoke. Don't use thoriated tungsten, as it is said to be radioactive.
