In the late afternoon of 18 June 1952, B-25 Mitchell Bomber Pilot Captain Eric P. Ashton encountered a UFO 100 miles due East of March Air Force Base, Riverside County, California.

On a heading of 270 and at 12,000 feet altitude Ashton observed a silver-colored oblong object off his left wing moving along with the B-25. He noted that the object was tilted 45 degrees FORWARD in the direction of flight. The unusual object paced his aircraft for roughly 30 minutes before increasing speed to disappear from sight in minutes time.

This UFO was shaped like a tic-tac in that Ashton described it as "somewhat longer in size that width."

It is interesting that Project Blue Book records make no effort to communicate that this sighting began over Eagle Mountain and Joshua Tree National Park.

Jack Arnold's 1953 film "It Came From Outer Space" was shot in and around Joshua Tree National Park and is now recognized as one of the earliest films in the alien invasion genre.
