Before you even think about messing with the wiring in your car (be it audio, fuel pump related, whatever), there are three tools you must have to get by. One is a pair of wire cutters to strip the sheathing (I like the Knipex ones). You're definitely gonna need a set of crimpers as well... I'm brand agnostic on these but there are some high grade ones out there. You also need a butane soldering kit to unite the wires together - this kit from Power Probe does the trick for me.
