By 24 May 1982, the Falklands War was slowly turning into an attrition war. The British ships were being sunk or damaged by Argentinian aircraft and in turn, those same aircraft were being shot down by anti-aircraft defense and even more, by Royal Navy Sea Harriers. It was still not entirely clear which side would run out of resources when Argentina launched massive, compressed airstrikes against the British ships in San Carlos Water. 'Oro' flight consisting of three Daggers led by Capitán Raúl Díaz was approaching from the north at very low level. Lt Cdr Andy Auld and Lt David Smith were flying CAP to the north-east.
