Thoughts on Education and Learning
In the process of creating a recent video, I felt like I had a purer learning experience than ever before. Why didn’t my school offer that? Probably because my school placed emphasis on traditional content-dissemination instead of creating meaningful opportunities for intellectual exploration. And Derek from Veritasium agrees with me :D
~~~
Best summary of my thoughts: the best way to help anyone learn is to give them an environment where they can challenge themselves with material they care about.
~~~
*NOTE* After watching this, I realized I didn’t organize it as clearly as I could have. I ask myself why my education hadn’t provided me with the pure learning experiences that YouTube had, and then I immediately talk about Veritasium’s video on technology. I mentioned his video because like he says, I believe emphasis on social processes and intellectual exploration will revolutionize education (rather than technology). YouTube offers that. Most schools don’t. That’s the point I was trying to make :)
