Those Who Kill stars #ChloeSevigny as Catherine Jensen, a homicide detective who is plagued by the unsolved death of her brother and her suspicion that her step-father is a secret serial killer. Unable to escape her past she seeks assistance from forensic psychologist Thomas Schaeffer (#JamesDarcy). As a freshly minted homicide detective, Catherine Jensen has garnered a reputation for overstepping her boundaries in her unrelenting pursuit to solve Pittsburgh’s most gruesome murders. Motivated by her past, including the disappearance of her brother and the suspicion that her stepfather is a serial killer, she often finds herself emotionally connected to the victims she’s investigating. Jensen enlists the help of Thomas Schaeffer (D’Arcy), a forensic psychologist who has a tumultuous relationship with the police department, to provide insight into her cases and her personal investigation into her stepfather. He also finds himself deeply connected to each case, but often through the killer, which proves to be a hazardous undertaking. The pair shares a skewed sense of judgment that often puts them and sometimes even their families at risk. As these two captivating yet flawed characters come together, their bond often rescues them from their individual demons, but may be the source of more harmful tribulations.
Catherine (Chloe Sevingy) is a newly appointed Detective in the Pittsburgh Police Department's Homicide Division. She's not afraid to take a punch or deliver one. She's an intelligent, fearless, strong, determined, woman whose work is her life, professional yet with an air of sadness, or possibly anger, that drives her. A woman of enormous empathy towards murder victims, for whom they are never just a body or a name. Fast becoming a favorite of her superior, Captain Bisgaard, for her courage, intuition and dedication, Catherine can also be a thorn in his side for her lack of following protocol and "do whatever it takes" attitude. She brings a deeply personal gift to the job, having been a victim of her dark past.
Thomas (James D’Arcy) is a forensics psychiatrist, Ph.D., author and professor. Thomas is uniquely talented, with the ability to get deeply inside the head of a serial killer – sometimes so deeply that he "loses himself" and has to be brought back to reality, though not without having gained some enormous insight. Thomas cannot deny Catherine's offer to help with the Pittsburgh Police Department's investigation of bizarre murders, even though he has a dark history with the police captain. He also fears his own genetic disposition to violence. Driven, as much a workaholic as Catherine, Thomas is a perfect partner for Catherine, whose own hidden psychological frailties he understands. Thomas is a family man, happily married to his wife Benedicte and father of their son, but his work on these cases puts his family in jeopardy.
