Today we’re checking out The J: a collaboration between ThorpyFX and Lazy J Amplifiers.

This pedal captures the sound and feel of Jesse Hoff’s legendary J20 combo, known for rich, chewy tweed breakup and touch-sensitive response that just feels alive under your fingers.
Adrian and Jesse then worked together to bottle that sound into a compact analog amp emulator, complete with an internal transformer for real amp-like punch, sag, and feel like we heard in the Scarlet Tunic.
You’ve got controls for Normal and Bright channel volumes, Tone for EQ shaping, and Response for presence and bite. The Supply knob emulates the varying voltage drop: full up for headroom, or rolled back for that sweet, vintage compression.
The right footswitch toggles between Normal and Bright channels and the X/Y switch lets you choose between 12AX7 or 12AY7 emulated input tubes which go from classic Tweed chime and grit to raw med gain drive.
