Madame Souza and her faithful dog Bruno cross continents in search of her grandson, a renowned cyclist who is training for the Tour de France when he suddenly disappears.
Through a labyrinth of corridors and into a dark world where nefarious characters seem to seep from the wallpaper, the feats of combining a Buñuel-like absurdism with rapid-fire antics in the spirit of early Warner Brothers cartoons, could only come to fruition in the hands of a skilled animator. Twenty years ago, The Triplets of Belleville stormed into the theatre and put our hearts on a roller-coaster. Written and directed by Sylvain Chomet, the movie clips along at the speed of a cyclist in training, thanks in great part to the manic score by Montreal-born composer Benoît Charest. Now, audiences have a rare opportunity to see the iconic animated film accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by the composer himself!
