SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. — The Lansing Journal arrived at Thornton Township headquarters at 5:30 p.m. Monday evening in order to cover the 6 p.m. regular meeting of the board. The nearly empty parking lot prompted reporter Carole Sharwarko to check the township website, where she found notice of the meeting's cancellation posted by Thornton Township Clerk Casey Nesbit.
The agenda had not been posted to the township website, nor had it been emailed to The Lansing Journal, but as late as Sunday, March 15, it was taped to the glass door of the township building.
The Lansing Journal spoke with five members of the public who drove to Thornton Township headquarters to participate in the meeting, only to find it had been cancelled:
