Thomas Fuller was a West African Slave, brought to 18th century United States who quickly impressed the white population with his extraordinary mathematical knowledge and skills. His impressive intelligence fueled anti-slavery sentiment as it proved that blacks were capable of being just as cognitively brilliant as whites. It also proved that Africans had their own mathematical traditions prior to being forcibly transported to the Americas.
