This weeks episode of Sunday Morning Sounds brought to you by ‘Shine On performing Us and Them.
Shine On is a Delaware County Pink Floyd Tribute band. This band brings an intensity, an energy, what I would call a passion that must be experienced in person for full appreciation. As ‘Money’ flew around like “Pigs on the wing,’ … ’Time’ slipped when I had a ‘Momentary lapse of reason,’ realizing the band just performed the album ‘Animals.’
Earlier in the day I had decided that I wanted to hear some brass instruments because I saw an ad for a jazz 1920’s style ensemble in Philly. To my ear jazz is brassy and I particularly like the sounds of the sax. Yet my classification is incorrect because a saxophone is a woodwind instrument. Just because the sax is often made of brass does not qualify the instrument as such; the mouthpiece is a vibrating reed, which makes it a woodwind. Anyhow I wanted soothing cool sounds…and then saw an ad for ‘Shine On.’ I guess I think of Floyd as brassy and soothing.
Back to the show, the night was winding down and after intense musical energy for most of the evening, it was time to slow it down. It was at this moment that it hit me.. this is what I have been looking for all day long. Found It! What is the best Sax song and solo by Pink Floyd?……. Anyone?
Us and Them
During a break I asked one of the lead guitarists,
“How old are you guys?
He replied…
“ I’m 23, he is 22.”
I go ‘How do you all know every nuance of Pink Floyd?’
They looked at each other and said…
”Our Parents”
HAHA My friend retorted “Good Parenting!”
