This was the night we eloped. I was 24. It was before social media, before the fame, before the money.. before millions of people would watch our lives unfold. It was just two recovering addicts, hopelessly in love (and deeply codependent) convinced love and sobriety would be enough to carry us through anything. For many years, they did. Then addiction came back, and everything unraveled in ways I never could have imagined.
What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Hotter is a micro memoir that begins with the beginning of the end… the collapse of a marriage, the unraveling of a life, and the impossible task of rebuilding after losing almost everything. It’s a story about addiction, codependency, heartbreak, healing and discovering that sometimes losing the life you planned is exactly how you find the person you were meant to become.
