Can a tiny wireless fingerprint key make Linux authentication easier without compromising on security?
I tested Immurok for over a week on Ubuntu, using it to unlock my session, authenticate sudo commands, access servers through SSH, generate TOTP codes, and approve commands requested by an AI coding agent.
The hardware is compact, attractive, and full of potential. The core features work, battery consumption appears promising, and keeping fingerprints and private keys on the device is an interesting approach to desktop security.
However, the current Linux experience still feels unfinished. I encountered confusing pairing, missing fingerprint prompts, rough TUI and CLI behaviour, an ever-growing log file, and a timing bug that initially prevented authentication from working. But once the initial setup was done, the device worked smooth, no further issues.
Immurok is still in crowdfunding, with shipping planned for November 2026. Hopefully, the Linux application will be considerably more polished by the time it reaches backers.
