The core of the conundrum is that Assassin‘s Creed Shadows is set in Japan and people initially gamers expected to play as a Japanese samurai, but then Ubisoft places a black "samurai" protagonist, gamers get disappointed because the protagonist being native is a trademark of the assassin Creed series. 2 is set in Italy you get Ezio Auditore da Firenze, from Florence, Odyssey is in Greece you play as a Greek guy, which results in hearing the word m alaka every 16 seconds, Origins you are an Egyptian, 3 you get to play a chunk of the game as a native American you get it. Given to be fair there have been exceptions: In Black flag you play as a Welshman in the Carabeans but leader was Welshman Henry Morgan Valhalla you play as a Norse in a game about the Norse, the fact he ends up in England doesn't count.

So gamers don't like the protagonist choice, and they get called racist for it, and don't get me wrong a few were actually racist in the comments, and those are horrible to read of course, but this word is now overused, as evidenced by google Ngram where we can see the monumental increase in usage since the 1800s to 2019. But most people even those who like me have nothing against a Black character as the protagonist, just didn't like the reason why Ubisoft did it, which let's be real, It's DEI check boxes you know it, I know it, we all know it.

I myself personally think that a Japanese samurai guy as the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Shadows would have been more apt, while having Yasuke as a DLC character. Because I do reckon Yasuke is a really cool character to play with. Thing is though, I hate it when they race swap historical characters, but at least in this case they are using an actual historical Black man from Africa, I was half expecting Ubisoft to turn Oda Nobunaga Black. At least I call it a half victory.

Back to my story. So now gamers and Youtubers are enraged because they feel doubly wronged, and when I say enraged, some of the youtubers covering this hey I agree with the base sentiment even though sometimes I dislike the execution, the Japanese in particular feel wronged because "why us?"
So believe me when I say I get it, up to this point, I'd agree with the angry gamers, I mean I made a whole video completely annihilating Ubisoft team and it was about Naoe, which in my opinion, is even more of a mess historically speaking than Yasuke is if we are gonna be real about this.

But then the angered gamers looked for someone to direct their anger towards, some one to blame, A scape GOAT. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Tom Cruise’s lost twin, Thomas lockley.

And I swear if it was the family name that they had in common and not the first name I would’ve totally believed it. It’s him. It's him! It has always been him. “It’s all his fault” yelled the mob with a pitchforks and torches, as they take him to the gallows.

He has been doing this since 2015 changing Wikipedia since 1915 injecting DEI since the 13th century, it’s him. Take him. Seize him! He’s the devil or not?

But jokes aside, in all seriousness, this professor, sorry I mean "perfidious historian" yeah ah, not a historian by the way, his specialism is education, not history. Has been the target of a debunking/ in some cases harassment campaign.

Now does he deserve it?

I'll rest my case in a moment but let me first say that I'm not here as an apologist for Thomas Lockley, Why would I? I don't even know the guy a part from a few emails we have exchanged, so I will point out the elements of his thesis and modus operand I disagree with, but I'm also not here to support this accusation of debauchery a priori according to which Mr. Lockley is a criminal mastermind of undercover DEI injection and politically motivated historical rewriting without first reviewing the evidence. That's fair right?

Now since I get called both a bigot and woke an Alt Right grifter while simultaneously being a left wing troll, which confirms I'm neither, I've decided to look into this to actually find out the truth about this man and whether the accusations were founded or not. So I have conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation into all the claims made on social media in the last few weeks, so that we can actually separate the objective facts from the uninformed fiction.
