A T. rex just broke a world record for a dinosaur at auction with a final sale value of $50.1 million.
Gus is an exceptional dinosaur. In terms of bone count, he’s around 61 percent complete making him one of the most complete ever found – something dinosaur specialist at the Natural History Museum, London, Prof Paul Barrett describes as “a palaeontologist’s dream”. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen if future palaeontologists will ever get to see Gus.
As Barrett told IFLScience, private sales can represent an obstacle to science. So, should dinosaurs be for sale? Let us know in the comments.
