Several landslides in the Portuguese Bend area of the Palos Verdes peninsula have been active for the past several decades, with recent acceleration causing damages to homes and infrastructure. These slides are all part of a huge, reactivated, ancient landslide feature that has developed as a result of the unique geologic conditions in the area. This video uses MS Paint and an actual moving "sandbox" landslide model to show how this huge landslide system works, why slides like this can be brought to life so easily, and what (if anything) will slow their movement.
