On February 12th, 1995, a 911 operator in Los Angeles received a call from a panicked man. He identified himself as Philip Kramer. His voice was strained. He made a chilling statement, and then the line went dead. It was the last confirmed contact anyone ever had with him.
Kramer wasn’t just anyone. In the 1970s, he was the bassist for the rock band Iron Butterfly. After leaving music, he reinvented himself as an engineer, eventually working as a contractor tied to U.S. defense projects. Some reports suggest his work was connected to advanced missile systems.
By the 1990s, he had shifted again—this time into tech. As co-founder and CTO of Total Multimedia, Kramer worked on early video compression and facial recognition technology. According to his wife, he also believed he had made a breakthrough in faster-than-light communication—an idea far outside accepted science, but one he was convinced was real.
At the same time, his company was spiraling. Financial stress, internal conflict, and increasingly strange influences—like executives embracing New Age beliefs and even bringing in a shaman—created chaos behind the scenes.
In the days leading up to his disappearance, Kramer was under intense pressure. He hadn’t slept properly in nearly two weeks. He told his wife people might be after him. He warned a friend, “We have to be careful.”
The morning he vanished, Kramer made 17 phone calls. He called his wife, promising a “big surprise,” but sounding off. He called his former bandmate, saying, “I love you more than life itself.” Then came the 911 call.
