By combining the iFootage Shark Slider Nano 2, the DJI RS gimbal and the X-tract probelens from DZO, we are now able to shoot nature video that could fit straight into a high-end nature documentary. See how the rig works and how I used it for my shoot.

Dear everybody. The most terrible thing has happened. We have lost our good friend Eskild Fors. He died suddenly from us, following an acute depression, May 16th 2017.

Eskild. We miss you so much. You were always there for us. Always. It’s difficult to comprehend what wonderful person you were and how much you affected our lives. Your smile, your joy, your humor, your thoughtfulness, the helping hand, your ability to be the good friend who always stood up for us.
You were one of the most talented and creative guys we ever knew. That is what brought us all together to begin with. We loved joking around in front of the camera; let our mind flow, dream away. We were in a special world when we made videos together. No words can describe how much we will miss those moments.
Not just us, not just your friends, but the whole world absorbed your positive energy. People have written to us that when they have been depressed, they felt better watching our videos. They were inspired by what you did, they were inspired by who you were.
Eskild, you will never be forgotten.
We love you so much.

I posted the news about Eskilds passing away on our Facebook page Andyax Productions May 19th 2017. This tribute video is a result of the condolence videos we received from you, our followers. Thank you so much, it really warms our hearts.
I know a lot of you would have loved to send in a video and be a part of this video. However, I could only include a certain amount of contributions in one video, and I hope this video is a good summery of what people thought of Eskild.
Take care of each other and speak out about any struggle you might have. Because there are people out there who want to help you. No words can describe how it is to lose a good friend.
I will finish up the two next episodes of Behind The Camera Hack, which Eskild is a big part of. Its tough, because those are the last videos Ill upload which include Eskild. After that Ill have to figure out what we do next with the channel, but one thing is sure: We will continue making videos, because thats what Eskild wanted. He loved making videos for Youtube. His channel Eskild Fors (https://www.youtube.com/user/Exkild) will therefore stay as it is, so we can still enjoy his videos.
Again, thanks for all your support. It means a lot to us, his family, and it meant a lot to Eskild.

The jib we are testing is called iFootage Minicrane M1-III. It’s easy to take apart, and it get’s quite small. In addition it’s light weighted and solid due to the carbon fiber. The 2,17m long jib will make your camera move from 3 metres heights (depending on the tripod you are using) and it got several features to do creative shots. The price is $499 which is a great price compared to other similar equipment.
In addition you would need a really strong tripod. In this video we are testing the iFootage Wild Bull Tripod T7 which is very strong/solid and light weighted. It costs $539.
The only thing you don’t get with the jib is counterweights. iFootage sells a water bag you can use as a counterweight, but since I already had some weight laying, I added a couple of 2,5kilo weights which is enough to carry my GH4 and Sigma 18-35mm lens.
So, is this something you should buy? I think it depends on your budget. After testing it out for a couple of weeks, this was my conclusion: You don’t need a jib/crane to make great movies, but it really gives you those unique and good looking shots that is almost impossible to make with other types of gear. The iFootage Minicrane M1 mark iii is great compared to it’s relatively low price. You would need some practice to operate it because it’s quite sensitive to movements, even though you tighten the resistance. You need to be steady, and if you are panning and tilting manually, be sure to buy a really good tripod head.
As a conclusion, if your dream is to become a cinematographer one day, save some money and buy this thing. Because you would definitely learn new and professional ways of operating the camera.
