A most unusual case occurred recently in which Ofcom did investigate and ended up making a sensible and less serious decision in its response towards Horizon Radio in Milton Keynes.
The F word was broadcast on repeat on its DAB service for around half an hour. Ofcom found that the single word was aired continuously for 26 minutes during the 6pm hour on October 9th, 2025.
As soon as the incident was noticed by Horizon’s MD at 18:24, the whole service was taken off the air and of course the station apologised later when normal service was resumed at 18:50.
Ofcom decided that the incident was a serious breach of Rules 1.14 and 2.3 of the Broadcasting Code.
Ofcom considered that the Licensee did everything in its control to minimise the impact of this incident and concluded that the matter was resolved.
It seems like a case of infighting between community radio stations in the DAB community, something not all that unusual unfortunately.
Horizon radio can be found on the Milton Keynes DAB multiplex 9B.
