On this episode of Gulf Coast Knapping, I work a beautiful tab of pinhead coral and reduce it into a wide biface while explaining the flintknapping process along the way. This material is slick and glassy and produces long, clean flakes when the platforms are prepared correctly.
In this video I walk through how I approach tab reduction, platform preparation, flake direction, and early biface shaping when working coral. Pinhead coral can be unpredictable, but when everything lines up it can flake incredibly well.
