What started as a fun hunt for penguins hidden around RuneScape became one of the most chaotic nights in the game’s history. In 2009, a small glitch allowed players to gain millions of illegitimate XP, hundreds of innocent players were banned, and Jagex spent nearly a week cleaning up the mess. But things could’ve been much worse if two of RuneScape’s most respected moderators hadn’t stepped in. This is the story of the Penguin Hide and Seek Glitch.
