I hear ya. All the bass players are wondering why I haven't mentioned any mods to make the tubescreamer or boss sd-1 type of circuit better for bass players. I read the comments, and I want to help ;)
So with that said, here's a quick post-namm video on how to modify a boss SD-1 super overdrive pedal into a more bass-friendly overdrive pedal. Also, these mods will pretty much crossover into tubescreamer style circuits as well in general.
So, enjoy, have fun, don't burn yourself, and diy it š
