In 1796, in this rustic hut in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, Dr Edward Jenner performed the first-ever vaccinations against smallpox. 💉
As a result, Dr Jenner is acknowledged as having saved more lives than any other human and is known as the father of immunology.
Unfortunately, the hut is currently in poor condition, with its thatched roof almost bare at the ridge, and urgent works are required to repair the rear wall and chimney.
The good news is that the site has been added to our Heritage at Risk Register, which will help to ensure this world-changing site can be protected for future generations.
