In the spring of 2018 I lost my dear mum to a brain tumour. The day before her funeral I wrote a song to play at the service.
Knowing I wouldn't be able to get through it live, and not having time to get into a proper studio, I recorded it on my phone and made a short clip using photos taken throughout her life. Here it is, warts and all.
Here are the lyrics should anyone be unable to understand my Somerset drawl.
This isn't over
I've not gone anywhere
I'm always around you
I'll always be there
I'm there in the birdsong
And the fresh fallen snow
And each flower that opens
Each river that flows
The sunrise and sunset
The rain that won't stop
The breeze in the forest
and the view from the top
This isn't over, I'll always be there
This isn't over, I'll always be there
I'm there in the warm sand
of each dune that you climb
each wave you jump over
and each cowrie you find
In the boats swaying gently
Along at the quay
In the vinegar air
And the roar of the sea
This isn't over, I'll always be there
This isn't over, I'll always be there
In the smile of a stranger
Or a hug from a friend
In the laughter of children
This isn't the end
So cry if you need to
For all that we shared
But this isn't over
I'll always be there
This isn't over, I'll always be there
This isn't over, this isn't the end.
