Story Chasing | THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED IN MY 20's THAT INFLUENCED MY VAN LIFE (first taste of freedom) VAN LIFE VLOG @storychasing | Uploaded April 2021 | Updated October 2024, 3 minutes ago.
Story Time: This is what happened in my 20's that influenced my van life and my desire for exploration and being put into uncomfortable situations. It was my first real taste of freedom that I will never forget. It started in Jacksonville, Florida where I lived for 6 months with strangers, renting a room, and being a kid with no real responsibility. I needed that to mature and grow and figure my way through this world. My childhood traumas shaped me and affected me in ways and I didn't fully understand at the time. So this van life travel vlog to Jacksonville, Florida has brought up a lot of memories of where it all started. My favorite poem and something that has deeply influenced me is from Marianne Williamson called "Our Deepest Fear". Listen to the end to hear it.

Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started full time RV living. I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of traveling full time in an RV and creating incredible memories.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B van on a Promaster 2500 chassis. Now in my 4th year of RVing in my camper van, I'm still loving this RV lifestyle and being a digital nomad. I almost always boondock in nature and really enjoy that off grid living.

Its time to leave to the East Coast for the West Coast. I share my van life travel costs as I cross the country over 3,000 miles and also how I chose camping spots that are free. Im super conflicted about leaving the east coast. Ive had such a great time and met so many wonderful people. Plus a huge thanks to my friends, Mark & Grant, for their friendship and hospitality while I stayed with them in New York. Ill miss the east coast. Ive been driving there since last February and its not always been easy. Its definitely more challenging and more expensive then van life on the west coast, but Im so glad I did it!

Am I done with van life? I dont have the answers right now. Im conflicted and tossing around ideas. All I know is that Im feeling a little bit burned out right now and I need to figure out some sort of change to overcome it. I thought getting a truck and trailer might do it, but after staying at my friends log cabin home in the Catskills Mountains - I might be rethinking that idea.

Its my last leg of the van trip to the San Francisco area where Im getting my van repairs completed by Gordon at Edge Vanworks. The day after I arrived to Livermore, California, where the van repair shop is at, I noticed ants crawling in my bed by the corner. Ouch! How do you live in a van with all the power and other issues plus ants? You dont. I ended up checking into a hotel room so I could get rid of the ants in the van and also move all my stuff out of the back end so Gordon could access the inverter that needed repairs done to it. Of course the Bomb Cyclone hit during this time. It was a stressful moment moving everything out of the van and into the hotel room. This is why I say living in a van can really suck especially when everything hits at once.
However, I did get it all taken care of and was able to visit with a good who also has a Hymer van (Ram Promaster conversion van). Im also sharing my travel costs in the van along the way.
