This is a short video of some gameplay snippets, creating a proof of concept of how our ships will sound when we are able to disable the audio simulation in the future. The audio you are hearing was done by me in post-production and does not reflect the sounds in the actual game. I used my skills as a sound designer, mixed with audio taken from the game and cooked up this concept.
As Star Citizen slowly adapts features from Squadron 42 over to the persistent universe, one element has lagged behind the most, audio. This is probably due to audio being last in line for major work as production comes to a close on big game projects such as Squadron 42. SQ42 more than likely already has the majority of its sound work done, the issue is adapting the new audio and underlying audio code to the PU which can be a challenge since single-player code does not always translate neatly to multiplayer. This is why audio in SC has been inconsistent for many years, even today there are features missing like the old one shot passbys, mix/asset issues, particularly with older ships, and even bugs like the annoying looping Q-drive or rain not being audible in the cockpit.
These problems will get nailed down over time, but until then we will be missing a lot of new features teased in the past such as how combat sounds with the audio simulation dialed down or turned off. I've done these proof of concepts in the past, so if you are interested in seeing/hearing them, be sure to check out the thumbnail links at the end of the video.
