Along the east coast of Australia, including Lismore in the NSW Northern Rivers, people are still living with the consequences of the latest wave of climate damage. As floods battered communities, we were stunned by footage of houses underwater while residents escaped down submerged streets in tinnies and canoes. But after the news crews left, residents stayed to face the fallout – homeless, unable to work or go to school, and struggling to rebuild, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
