Large log to bowl - using the chainsaw saw mill for initial preparation. Log had been down for several years, but due to size was still very green. Checking and spalting was already present. After green turning (and rusting half my shop) I allowed the bowl to dry about six months, several of which were on top of a box fan to accelerate drying (the checking actually helped speed it up).
Sanded to shape and Gorilla all purpose white wood filler was used to fill the checking. Final sanding to 320 grit. Two coats of Rubio Monocoat were used (to ensure full coverage with the checking).
11-3/4” tall by 19-3/4” wide at top. Base was flattened, but top was left ‘wavy’ from the drying. Plan to wait about a year to see if there are any significant changes to the wood filler or finish.
